Meet Dr. Cong Cong

NEET Lecturer and Lead Instructor, Digital Cities

Cong Cong, Ph.D., is the Lecturer and Lead Instructor of the NEET Digital Cities thread at MIT, and a Lecturer of Urban Science and Planning in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT. Dr. Cong's research focuses on using data, computing, and informatic tools to inform more effective decision-making. She explores the intersection of computer science and urban planning, and uses large-scale urban modeling and spatial big data analysis as exploratory techniques.

Dr. Cong's recent work highlights ways for open data and open-source tools to better support planning.
She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she also earned her Master’s in Urban Planning and a M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She practiced at the T.Y.Lin China office as a transportation engineer, following the completion of her education in Transportation at Tongji University.

Dr. Cong Cong, winner of the 2024 MIT Teaching with Digital Technology Award, helps students learn to code and visualize data for the built environment.
